LT History

Liberty Tabernacle was born out of the vision received by Minister Phillip Risby from the Lord. Liberty Tabernacle was incorporated December 26, 1991 in the state of Ohio.

The first service was held May 3, 1992 in a small building on Copley Rd. with a total of seventeen members (7 adults and 10 children). After a few months, since an equitable agreement could not be made between the church and the building owner, services were moved to the Pastor’s home. In the Pastor’s home, the church began to grow physically and financially. By 1993, the congregation and steady influx of visitors had outgrown the Pastor’s home. A search for a building ensued until the present location at 555 Corice Street in Akron, Ohio was found. The first service was held in the building on May 1, 1994 with a total of thirty-five members (16 adults and 19 children). Over time, the Lord blessed the congregation to pay off the mortgage of this building.

Under the pastorate of our founder, Phillip Risby, Liberty Tabernacle continued to grow physically and spiritually. As expected, the growth of the church resulted in the search for a new location that would fill the current needs and allow for future growth. A suitable existing building could not be found and in 2003 God blessed Liberty Tabernacle to purchase 3+ acres of land in Barberton, Ohio on which to build a sanctuary to house our ministries and help us reach those in need of salvation. Construction began in 2005 and the new place of worship located at 475 Frank Avenue in Barberton, Ohio is expected to open in 2009.

People of all socio-economic classes are encouraged to come as they are so that God can set them at liberty to serve Him.
